 Citadelic festival 2024

JUNE 2 - 19H30

carte blanche + 60th birthday celebrations
day 2:  Steven De bruyn / John Edwards (BE)

           when 2 performers collide

Every year, Citadelic gives at least one musician a carte blanche to do as they please. This year, the honor went to harmonica wizard Steven De bruyn. Although he had the option to invite a large ensemble, he was completely charmed by the English double bassist who was coming to celebrate his 60th birthday with a few performances.

When Steven began playing the harmonica, he quickly dreamed that this little instrument might become his passport to the world. With El Fish, The Rhythm Junks, and as a solo musician, he gradually developed his own recognizable style and sound. Moreover, with an arsenal of harmonicas (bass, diatonic, and chromatic), he made the instrument sexy.

Steven loves improvisation, and his music hops between blues, free jazz, and world music. This passion has led to numerous interesting collaborations: from Zap Mama to Roland Van Campenhout, from Eugene Chadbourne to the Brussels Philharmonic.
