UDNIE presents a set of music originally commissioned to accompany a dance piece by choreographer Chia-Ying Kao. Subsequently, the music was developed into a standalone set of compositions to be recorded and performed in a trio setting with Rema Hasumi and Todd Neufeld. The trio is called Camera Con Camera and the polysemy of the word ‘camera’ suggests soundscapes imagined to breathe well in a small room, with intentional restraint and focus on the objectiveness of multilayered tones and distillate melodic statements.

Virtuoso bass guitarist, improviser and composer Giacomo Merega has been an original figure in the New York improv scene for over a decade, after completing his studies in Boston at Berklee and at the New England Conservatory. Giacomo’s long list of noteworthy collaborators includes Anthony Coleman, Steve Swallow, Kip Hanrahan, Mat Maneri, Nate Wooley and Tyshawn Sorey among many others. As a composer and performer of music for dance, collaborating with choreographer Chia-Ying Kao, Giacomo’s work has reached audiences at festival, colleges and institutions around the globe in recent years. Giacomo’s upcoming projects include recordings with Joe Morris and Brandon Ross.

Rema Hasumi is a pianist, improviser, and composer based in Brooklyn. Although many years of piano study in her childhood were spent focusing on classical training, Rema gradually grew her interest in improvisational approaches to music, and moved to the U.S. in 2002 to pursue her study of improvisation. After graduating from CCNY and studying with acclaimed pianists such as John Hicks and George Cables, she was selected as one of the four finalists at the Women in Jazz Pianist competition in 2009 and presented a performance at the Kennedy Center. Her musical influences include Annette Peacock, Paul Bley, Masabumi Kikuchi, Ran Blake, and Alice Coltrane.

Todd Neufeld is a guitarist, composer, producer and educator based in NYC. Todd has performed and recorded with Lee Konitz, Masabumi Kikuchi, Tyshawn Sorey, Tony Malaby, Gerald Cleaver, Christian Wolff, Thomas Morgan, Josh Sinton, Jards Macale, Sergio Krakowski and many more, appearing across the U.S., Europe, Japan, Brazil and Canada. In 2017 his debut recording as a leader "Mu'U" was released on Ruweh Records, which he co-ran with Rema Hasumi. Currently, Todd teaches music to incarcerated communities in NYC prison. In 2023 Todd will be recording the debut of his duo with Belgian drummer Samuel Ber, as well as a collaborative project with tuba virtuoso Ben Stapp.
