Citadelic festival 2023
MAY 24 - 19H30 MAIN STAGE
carte blanche
Andreas Bral Citadelic Quartet featuring Sofia Jernberg, Joachim Badenhorst & Mariá Portugal (SE/BR/BE)
when international improvisors meet
Andreas Bral is an emerging artist in the fields of contemporary jazz and free improvisation, known for his work with Ocean Eddie, Hanne’ De Backer’s As We Walk and his trio with Nathan Wouters and Onno Govaert.
For this occasion, a carte blanche at Citadelic, he invites Belgian clarinettist Joachim Badenhorst, Swedish-Ethiopian singer Sofia Jernberg and Brazilian drummer and percussionist Mariá Portugal for a unique quartet line-up. The music will be mainly improvised and centered around synchronicity. It is concerned with multilayerdness emerging from elements acting independent, parallel, tangential, tactile, conflicting, agreeable, synchronised or causally related. Group sounds emerge from the voluntary interplay and polyphony of these elements, much as in Camus’ alleged phrase “Ne marche pas devant moi, je ne te suivrai peut-être pas.”
